FCDO Document Legalisation Process
- Notarial Authentication:
If your document has been signed or authenticated by a UK notary, it is generally sufficient for use in Kenya. The Kenyan Evidence Act (1963) recognises notarially authenticated documents without requiring further legalisation steps such as Apostille or consular verification.
2. No Apostille or Consular Legalisation Needed:
Since Kenya accepts notarially authenticated documents, there is typically no need to obtain an Apostille or submit the document to a consulate for additional verification.
In Kenya, documents typically do not require formal legalisation if they have been signed or authenticated by a UK notary. This is in accordance with the Kenyan Evidence Act of 1963 (as amended), specifically Sections 88 and 91, which allow for the recognition of notarially authenticated documents for legal use in Kenya.
